About

What is Nagaland Khadi & Village Industries Board (NKVIB)

  • The Nagaland Khadi & Village Industries Board (NKVIB) is a statutory body established under Act No. 5 of 1978 of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly.
  • It commenced its operations in January 1979 with the objective of implementing Khadi & Village Industries Commission (KVIC) programmes in Nagaland.
  • The Board does not operate as a profit-making entity but facilitates various schemes and initiatives to support entrepreneurs and small businesses in the state.

NKVIB primarily functions as an implementing agency for KVIC by providing financial assistance in the form of marginal grants to beneficiaries financed by banks under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP).

What does NKVIB do?

The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) has helped promote rural employment and entrepreneurship with the below initiatives

  • PMEGP:
    Supported 1,452 projects with a goal to generate 11,616 jobs. So far, 487 projects have been sanctioned, and ₹1,172.98 lakhs allocated.
  • Entrepreneurship Development Training:
    Mandatory two-week EDP training conducted online for PMEGP beneficiaries.
  • Capacity Building: The MDTC in Dimapur trained , utilizing ₹13.08 lakhs in funds.
  • Nagaland Initiatives: 60 artisans benefited, with machinery distributed, including electric pottery wheels and agarbatti machines
  • National Growth: KVIC’s sales rose 399.69% in a decade, reaching ₹1,55,673.12 crore, while 10.17 lakh rural jobs were created in 2023-24.

  1. PMEGP Implementation: Assisting beneficiaries in availing financial support under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme.
  2. EDP Training: Facilitating Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) training for PMEGP beneficiaries through designated institutions
  3. Capacity Building Programmes: Conducting training sessions under the Multi-Disciplinary Training Centre (MDTC) at Dimapur to enhance skills in various trades.
  4. Financial Assistance: Offering marginal grants to units financed by banking institutions under the PMEGP scheme.
  5. Skill Development Training: Conducting various village industry training programmes as per the budgetary allocations of KVIC.
  6. Khadi Promotion: Supporting and promoting Khadi products through various government schemes and initiatives.
Activities
1. Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) Training:
Beneficiaries financed under the PMEGP scheme are required to undergo a two-week EDP training in designated institutions. The training helps equip them with essential business and management skills. With the introduction of an online EDP training module by MSME, beneficiaries now have the option to complete training virtually.
2. Multi-Disciplinary Training Centre (MDTC) Programmes:
The MDTC at Dimapur conducts skill development programmes in various trades as per KVIC guidelines and the annual budgetary allocation.
3. Khadi & Village Industry Promotion:
Encouraging rural entrepreneurs and artisans to engage in Khadi and village industry activities, thus fostering self-employment and sustainable livelihoods.
4. Capacity Building Initiatives:
Organising workshops and training sessions to enhance the efficiency and productivity of small-scale industries and entrepreneurs.
5. Financial Support & Guidance:
Providing necessary financial support and guidance to beneficiaries and small business owners to help them establish and sustain their ventures.
