What is NHHDC?

Nagaland Handloom & Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd. (NHHDC), is a Government of Nagaland Undertaking dedicated to promoting and preserving the state’s rich cultural heritage through its handloom and handicraft industries. NHHDC supports local artisans and weavers by providing raw materials, procuring finished products, and selling them through 8 emporiums across and outside Nagaland. They also organize exhibitions and craft bazaars to showcase Naga craftsmanship, ensuring these traditions thrive in a modern world.

What does NHHDC do?

  1. State Handloom Expos:
    NHHDC organized three State Handloom Expos with support from the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. These events, held in Dimapur and Phek, brought together artisans, buyers, and craft enthusiasts, creating a vibrant platform for cultural exchange and economic opportunity.
  2. Boosting Production
    • Invested ₹13.42 lakh in raw materials.
    • Achieved a total production value of ₹28.74 lakh.
    • Currently, raw materials worth ₹10.16 lakh are stored for future use.
  3. Expanding Markets
    • Invested ₹30.60 lakh in procuring handloom and handicraft products.
    • Generated total sales of ₹40.16 lakh (till January 2024).
    • Launched online sales through Instagram and Facebook under the brand name “MERAKI”.
    • Plans are underway to expand to global platforms like Amazon and Etsy, pending funding.
Services
1. Promotion and Development of Traditional Crafts
Established in 1979, NHHDC aims to promote and develop Nagaland's indigenous handloom and handicraft products.
2. Skill Development and Design Support
The corporation conducts skill upgrade programs and provides design support to artisans and weavers, enhancing their craftsmanship and product quality.
3. Marketing and Sales Emporiums
NHHDC operates ten sales emporiums within and outside Nagaland, including a prominent one in New Delhi, facilitating the sale of products crafted by local artisans and weavers.
4. Exhibitions and Fairs
Regularly organizing exhibitions, district-level festivals, fairs, crafts bazaars, and handloom expos both within and outside the state, NHHDC provides platforms for artisans and weavers to showcase and sell their products.
5. Collaborations for Artisan Support
NHHDC collaborates with organizations like the North Eastern Handicrafts and Handlooms Development Corporation (NEHHDC) to focus on skill development, capacity building, and providing improved market access for traditional craftsmen.

  • Promotes and develops traditional handloom and handicraft products unique to Nagaland.
  • Operating production centers for manufacturing handloom and handicraft items for sale through their emporiums.
  • Providing raw materials to registered artisans and weavers at fixed rates to support production.
  • Procure and market finished products from artisans through their sales emporiums, exhibitions, and fairs.
  • Conducting skill development and design support programs to enhance craftsmanship.
  • Organizing exhibitions, craft fairs, and promotional events to provide market exposure to artisans and weavers.
  • Collaborating with government bodies, private enterprises, and development agencies to expand market access and improve artisan support.
  • Managing and operating sales emporiums within and outside Nagaland, facilitating direct sales of handmade products.
  • Implementing welfare programs aimed at improving the socio-economic conditions of artisans and weavers.
